Covid Mortality and Deprivation: England and Wales

Mortality rates from Covid-19 are highest in the most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK:

Even after controlling for a range of other factors, in the 20% most deprived neighbourhoods there has been an average of 21 more Covid-19 deaths per 100,000 population compared to the least deprived neighbourhoods.

The size of the dots in the map shows the death rate from Covid-19, adjusted for age of neighbourhoods (LSOAs) in England and Wales. The colour of the dots shows the deprivation of the neighbourhoods (deciles within each nation). This allows us to see that deaths from Covid-19 have been particularly concentrated in more deprived urban areas.
